Dr Emily McGeown, a highly experienced counselling psychologist, has offered professional psychological services in independent practice for over 18 years. She is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.
Situated in a secure and confidential environment in North Leeds (Chapel Allerton, LS8), Emily provides a safe space for children, young people and adults to explore their concerns and work towards personal growth. Sessions are typically on a weekly or fortnightly basis, ideally on the same day and at the same time each week, to ensure consistency and convenience.
For those who prefer remote sessions, online video appointments are also available (using Google Meet). In addition to traditional indoor sessions, Emily offers alternatives such as 'therapy outdoors'—a walk and talk approach.
Alongside her independent practice, Emily works as a senior psychologist in the NHS, demonstrating her commitment to mental health care in both private and public sectors. Her background includes roles as a senior lecturer, teaching counselling psychology to doctoral trainees, as well as coordinating volunteers in a national charity where she also provided support to child and adult victims of crime. Emily has also volunteered as a director of a committee-led preschool and volunteered as a counsellor with Childline.
Emily is registered with BUPA and other insurance providers.
Psychological counselling with Emily can address a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, trauma, childhood abuse, bereavement, relationship issues, low self-esteem, phobias, work-related stress, difficulty expressing emotions, and feelings of loneliness.
Medico-legal
In addition to therapeutic work, Emily also engages in medico-legal assessments, providing evaluations of the psychological impact resulting from incidents such as road traffic accidents or assaults on both adults and children.
